The United Benefice of East Clevedon
Who are we?
We are a group of four parish churches in the Church of England who share the same Rector. A group like ours is called a benefice.
Where are we?
Our benefice stretches from East Clevedon (All Saints), up to Walton St Mary (St Mary’s) and along the road to Portishead taking in the three villages of Walton in Gordano (St Paul’s), Weston in Gordano (St Peter and St Paul’s) and Clapton in Gordano (St Michael’s). We sit at the northern most part of the Diocese of Bath in Wells in Somerset.
What do we do?
We offer a “modern catholic” ministry in the Church of England – inclusive, liturgically sensitive, thoughtful and prayerful. Our oldest church was built in 1226 and the youngest in 1860 and for all these generations we have tried to live and tell the good news of God made known in Christ. All of our churches are places of considerable beauty and sanctuary.
How are we united?
All the parishes are independent in that they are parishes in their own right, but we all share an Incumbent (currently The Rev’d Prebendary Noel Hector) a parish office, a parish magazine and united benefice occasions and services. The magazine and website will have details of what’s happening in the weeks and months ahead.
How do I find out more?
This website should have most of the information you need for all the different churches and for planning weddings, funerals or baptisms. The contact details are also here so please get in touch if we can help.
The United Benefice Parish Office
The Parish Office is at 32, All Saints Lane, Clevedon, BS21 6AU – 01275 873257 – and is next door to The Rectory. The office is open on Tuesday and Friday mornings from 9.00am - 1.00pm but you can phone or email at any time and we try to respond to enquiries either immediately or within the day.
Payment of Fees and Donations
Church of England Fees are charged for some services (weddings, funerals, monuments in the churchyards etc) and fees are detailed in an invoice giving information on how to pay. But also we are very grateful for any donations to our ministry as we are entirely dependent on giving to maintain our ministry and beautiful church buildings. You can find ‘Donate’ buttons on the website if you wish to pay fees or make a donation. We are very grateful.
